From the prologue "To My Travelling Companion"
My brief glimpse of you on the Golan Heights after the Six-Day War has almost become a legend. In a letter to my parents, I depicted the warrior, who drove past in a jeep, as a modern King David. My first thought was: ‘This man will be my husband and will always be good to me.’ Definitely pure prophecy! We have been together for forty-five years and every single day has affirmed my initial intuition.
This small collection celebrates loving vignettes of our lives together and the reader may wonder why I have included two poems, as if a widow mourns her husband, fallen in the Yom Kippur War. It was, thus, my poetry made its debut in 1976: a residue of the fear that you would not return, though with Divine Orchestration, after six months in Sinai, you arrived home in time to welcome your son into the world. The poems reflect a national rather than a personal bereavement; the tragedy of so many young widows bringing up their children without a father.
Contains 18 English poemstogether with Hebrew translations and a prologue in both languages.
